Finally, The Rock has brought back the fanny pack.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recreated that viral photo of him from the mid-90s in a new ad for his energy drink, ZOA.
The promotional video was posted to Instagram early Monday morning.
The new slogan is “Big Dwayne Energy,” or “BDE” – a cheeky play on the NSFW meaning. The ad shows people in various overwhelming situations like an aerial gymnast, a working mom and a surgeon.
However, when they take a sip of ZOA, they immediately turn into the “Fast 5” actor and conquer the tasks at hand all while Atlanta rapper Latto’s song “Big Energy” plays in the background.
“ZOA is the only energy drink packing BD(wayne)E ,” Johnson’s Instagram caption read.
In the end, a woman compliments the People’s Champion on his “Big Dwayne Energy,” but when he accepts the kind words, she clarifies that she meant it for someone else.
The camera then pans to Johnson dressed up in the famous black turtleneck, goldlink chain, jeans and leather fanny pack. Yes, he even has that hair too.
When current Dwayne asks his past self what he keeps in that fanny pack, ’90s Dwayne just flexes that famous eyebrow and the ad ends.
It turns out, the getup even surprised those working on the video too.
“We saved that for the last day of shooting,” Johnson told People magazine. “This one really took the cake. So, when I walked on set as the ’90s Rock, everybody’s reaction, I thought, was a good indicator of what people would feel when they finally saw the spot.”
Three days ago, Johnson teased “something big is coming” on Feb. 19. The teaser ended with him zipping up that famous leather fanny pack.
“ZOA Energy is the catalyst for Big Dwayne Energy: confidence without cockiness, radiating positivity that draws people to you and having the energy to take on any task,” a press release for the ad explained. “It’s all the things that the ZOA brand stands for and Dwayne Johnson exudes.”
The energy drink hit the market in 2021. It was founded by Johnson, his business partner Dany Garcia, professional fitness coach Dave Rienzi and John Shulman, managing partner at Juggernaut Capital.
The brand touts itself as a healthy energy drink as it contains B & C vitamins, electrolytes and zero sugar.
“When someone with a great, radiating energy enters the room, people feel it,” said Johnson, who serves as the brand’s chief energy officer. “ZOA Energy helps you be that best version of yourself and positively influence those around you – confidently owning your authentic self, having fun and doing your best to live life to the fullest. Before you know it, everyone is hooked on ZOA.”
Radiating energy is something the self-professed Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment knows well.
He has recently turned the wrestling world upside down with his latest return to the WWE.
The former WWE champion is set to take to the squared circle for Wrestlemania XL; however, it’s unclear in what capacity.
Wrestlemania XL takes place at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on April 6 and 7.
