Jamie Lee Curtis has pledged to donate a million dollars to help fire relief efforts in Southern California.
The Academy Award-winning actress announced on Instagram Thursday morning that she and her family have started a fund to help the city.
“As the fire still rages on and CalFire and the Los Angeles Fire Department and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there,” she wrote.
Curtis said she is in communication with California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Senator Adam Schiff to see “where those funds need to be directed for the most impact.”
On Tuesday, the Palisades Fire forced Curtis and thousands of others to evacuate their homes.
The “Halloween” actress’ donation comes after an emotional appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in New York.
“I’m literally just about to cry,” she told the audience.
“As you know where I live is on fire right now. Literally the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning,” she explained holding back tears. “I flew here last night. I was on the plane, started getting texts and it’s f–king gnarly, you guys.”
She called the events in Southern California a “catastrophe” explaining that the market she shopped and the schools her kids attended are all gone.
“It’s a really awful situation,” she continued. She explained that she was headed back to California on Thursday to be with her loved ones and to help her friends.
The Palisades Fire has been named the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history.
As of Thursday morning, the fire had grown to 17,000 acres with no containment.
