Now Blooming: Roses

Southern California gardening experts say it time to get out, explore and enjoy the 2025 roses season. Officials at The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens report, the spring bloom begins in mid-April and extends beyond Thanksgiving, thanks to Southern California’s mild climate.

The Huntington is having Botanical Workshop: Mastering Rose Care, May 31, 2025 from 10 a.m. to Noon. For ticket information, visit Huntington.org.


Gayle Anderson was live at what’s described as “L.A’s Most Treasured Rose Garden,” the Exposition Park Rose Garden, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks says the Rose Garden is closed every year from Jan. 1 to March 15 for pruning back of the roses, so the current blooms are spectacular. Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge hosts its “Rose-Stravaganza” on June 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. because the facility has played a pivotal role in the cultivation of spectacular roses.
