‘Person of Interest’ Sought in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash in Whittier; Possible Truck Involved Found: Police

A 58-year-old man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who remained at-large more than 24 hours after the fatal collision, police said Sunday.

Victor Gallegos was crossing the road in the area of Pickering Avenue and Hadley Street around 9 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a white Toyota pickup truck, which fled, according to the Whittier Police Department.

Gallegos died at the scene. He was identified Sunday evening by Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The truck believed to be involved in the fatal hit-and-run was located on Sunday in the 2200 block of Ruiz Place in Hacienda Heights, police said. It was unoccupied and authorities were still trying to locate the driver.

On Monday, police issued a photograph of 30-year-old Randy Marquez who was considered a “person of interest” in the crash.

Authorities also released a photo of the vehicle, hoping someone could help them identify who was driving it.
