1 dead, 5 injured in crash on 10 Freeway in L.A.

One person was killed and five others hurt after a violent crash on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles early Sunday morning, CHP said.

According to a CHP spokesperson, the collision occurred on the eastbound span of the 10 at the Arlington Avenue exit in the Jefferson Park neighborhood around 3:20 a.m.

“There was a single-vehicle traffic collision where the car spun out and was facing sideways in lanes,” the spokesperson said.  “Another vehicle then crashed into that car.”

A total of five people were injured, two of them critically.  The conditions of the other three victims are not known.

One person, an occupant of a Toyota Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene; it was not immediately clear if that person was the driver or a passenger.

CHP could not confirm if speed or DUI was a factor in the crash.

The Arlington Avenue off-ramp was closed for several hours while authorities cleared the scene, but it was reopened by 7 a.m.
