A relative of three people found dead with multiple stab wounds inside a Baldwin Park home Thursday night has been arrested, authorities announced Friday.
Police arrived at the residence in the 4700 block of Bogart Avenue near Cavette Place shortly before 7 p.m. to find someone inside a vehicle parked in the driveway.
That person accelerated quickly out of the driveway but crashed nearby within the culdesac, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Modica said.
The driver, identified only as a 23-year-old man, was detained as a person of interest and later arrested on suspicion of murder, the Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.
Inside the home, investigators found three victims suffering from multiple stab wounds. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. They were only identified as an 8-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and a 44-year-old woman.
Investigators said the suspect was related to the victims and resided at the location. “Out of respect for the family of the victims, the exact relationships will not be released at this time,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.
Police also confirmed that several other children lived at the home as well, though no additional injuries were reported.
Neighbors, who were shocked to hear the news, said they had heard screaming and a man yelling during the deadly incident.
“I’ve lived here for over 12 years and we’ve never experienced something like this,” a neighbor said.
Investigators have not announced any possible motive for the stabbings.
Anyone with information about the incident was urged to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Those who prefer to provide information anonymously can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
