Three of the victims — two women and a man — were hit by gunfire and wounded in the first shooting, which occurred at 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of East 115th Street and Mona Boulevard (map), according to Sgt. Stevens with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division.

The man had been shot in the face, while one of the women was hit in the hand and the other was hit in the stomach by bullet fragments, Stevens said.

They were all taken to the hospital and expected to survive, Stevens added.

The three victims were last reported to be in stable condition.

Less than an hour after the first incident, at about 9:20 p.m., a gunman opened fire on two people in the 2200 block of East 114th Street (map).

One of the victims, a woman, was shot in the back of the head and died after being rushed to a local hospital, according to Stevens.

She was identified as 29-year-old Samika Griggley, LAPD stated in a news release.

A man was also hit by a bullet in the upper back and was expected to survive his injury. He was taken to a local hospital where he was last reported to be in stable condition.

Police believed the same gunman was responsible for both shootings. The shooter was described by authorities only as a black male in his 20s.

It was not clear if the shooter fled on foot or in a vehicle.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

Anyone with information about the second shooting was asked to contact LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide Detective Gordon at (213) 485-4341.
