Boarding for Breast Cancer hosts 18th ‘Skate the Coast’ fundraiser

Boarding For Breast Cancer (B4BC) hosted its 18th annual Skate the Coast fundraiser this weekend, with hundreds of riders out in full force.

Sunday’s 8-mile (or 15-mile, if you’re feeling it) event is billed as a “skate-bike-roll” from the Santa Monica Pier to Dive N Surf, a surf shop in Redondo Beach.

B4BC said everyone of all ages and abilities – as long as they are on wheels – is welcome to join the “push for prevention” and raise money for the program’s education, prevention and survivorship programs.

On Sunday, KTLA’s Omar Lewis was live at Dive N Surf and spoke with B4BC Events and Outreach Director Maggie Gonzalez on the event’s importance.

“We do events like this where we really encourage people to get outside, be healthy and get active,” Gonzalez said. “We also take survivors on retreats…we take women [between the ages of 20 and 50] snowboarding, surfing, skiing. We believe nature is medicine, so it’s a way of finding some healing after going through such a traumatic stage in life.”
