Cooking oil spill closes 10 Fwy near Colton for hours

A cooking oil spill prompted a large cleanup operation on the 10 Freeway near Colton Tuesday evening that impacted travel for more than six hours.

The westbound freeway east of Mt. Vernon was closed just before 4:30 p.m. due to the cooking oil spill, the California Highway Patrol said.

The cause of the spill was not disclosed, but officials said it also affected the connector to the southbound 215 Freeway.

Cleanup efforts took several hours, with the full reopening announced just after 11 p.m.
