Deputies killed man wielding large scissors after punching father in Paramount, LASD says

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s fatal shooting of a man in Paramount Sunday night was preceded by a domestic argument between father and son, officials said.

Deputies responded to the 8400 block of Quimby Street just after 9 p.m., and on scene, a man told officials that he’d been punched in the face by his 30-year-old son after a verbal argument, the LASD said in a news release.

In the backyard, deputies located the son, whose identity has not been released, and found he was “armed with one pair of scissors approximately 8 inches in total length,” the release said.

The younger man “immediately and aggressively advanced toward deputy personnel” despite the use of a less-lethal stun gun, prompting at least one deputy to open fire and strike the man at least once.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
