All northbound lanes on the 5 Freeway in San Clemente at 3:50 a.m. Friday morning, more than 12 hours after an overturned crane prompted a SigAlert, according the California Highway Patrol.
A semitrailer carrying the crane toppled over shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, damaging the center divider and spilling Hydraulic fluid onto the freeway. The SigAlert was issued 15 minutes later, just south of Avenida Pico (map).
Aerial video showed northbound traffic jammed between the crash site and the entrance to Camp Pendleton.
Traffic was moving slowly on the right shoulder just before 6 p.m. Traffic was flowing on the southbound lanes after debris from the scene was cleared.
