A man was mauled to death by pit bulls in Lancaster Saturday night.
The attack was reported at about 10:30 p.m. on 22nd Street East, and when deputies arrived, the dogs that had attacked the man prevented paramedics from providing immediate treatment to the bloodied man, Deputy Maria Lucero told the Los Angeles Times.
At least one pit bull was shot and killed by deputies as a result, Lucero added.
Sgt. Garcia later told KTLA that the man sustained multiple bite wounds from two dogs, though what prompted the attack remains under investigation.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Footage from the scene shows that other dogs were taken into custody by L.A. County Animal Control. Garcia put the total number of dogs taken into custody by Animal Control as four.
No arrests have been made.
