Investigators are looking for two men suspected of killing a driver and hospitalizing a passenger in a road rage shooting on Thursday.
The shooting happened just after 4 p.m. and caused a miles-long backup on the northbound 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights, according to police.
In the moments leading up to the shooting, police say a gold Cadillac and a dark SUV had some sort of altercation as they were driving northbound on the freeway miles away.
The gold Cadillac rear-ended another vehicle and that’s when two men inside the dark SUV shot at the Cadillac at least five times.
The driver of the Cadillac was seriously injured and the passenger was killed.
To get away, the Cadillac driver made a U-turn and began driving southbound in a northbound lane before crashing into at least two other vehicles.
Police say that’s when the two men inside the dark SUV took off.
People who live in the neighborhood told KTLA’s Angeli Kakade that while they feel safe on the freeways, shootings like this are common in the area.
Police say they are working to get footage from a Tesla involved in the crash.
Meanwhile, police are asking the public for help.
Anyone with information or who could provide dashcam footage is encouraged to call LAPD.
