A teenager was hospitalized after being mauled by multiple dogs in San Bernardino County.
On July 17, Barstow sheriff’s deputies were notified of the attack, which occurred on the 30000 block of Newberry Road in Newberry Springs shortly before 10 a.m.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was out jogging when a pack of 10 large dogs suddenly converged on her, her parents said.
The dogs bit her several times on her arms and legs, leaving her with large lacerations, abrasions and removed flesh. A good Samaritan spotted the attack and was able to rescue the girl from the canines.
After investigating, detectives discovered the dogs belonged to a Newberry Springs resident and the dogs were not fenced in or leashed at the time.
The teen was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center due to the extent of her injuries, authorities said.
San Bernardino Animal Control workers seized 16 dogs from the area in connection with the attack. A criminal investigation will be conducted by the sheriff’s department.
No further details, including the name of the victim or the dogs’ owner, were provided. Authorities released information about the incident on Aug. 8.
