Suspect arrested for allegedly assaulting police officer in Ventura County

A theft suspect was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer in Ventura County.

The suspect was identified as Victor Hernandez, 24, of Oxnard, according to the Port Hueneme Police Department.


On April 16, police responded to a theft at a Ralphs grocery store at 615 West Channel Islands Boulevard at 1 p.m.

Arriving officers spotted Hernandez fleeing the area on his bicycle. When police approached, Hernandez jumped off his bike and allegedly threw the bike at police and struck one of the officers.

Hernandez ran away from the scene and jumped into a water canal as officers chased after him.

He eventually surrendered to police and was arrested for: 

The officer who was struck suffered minor injuries. No other officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
