Teen arrested in connection to murder of 12-year-old at park in Compton

Authorities have arrested a teenager in connection to the murder of a 12-year-old boy in Compton on Friday.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a 17-year-old boy was taken into custody at about 10 a.m. Sunday in the city of L.A.


He was arrested on suspicion of murder, the department confirmed.

The shooting took place in the 2100 block of Oris Street near Fig/Oleander Park just before 4 p.m. on Friday. The young victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived.

He was later identified through evidence discovered at the scene, although authorities didn’t reveal what that evidence was.

The teen is currently being held at a local juvenile detention facility.
