A man was shot in the parking structure of an apartment complex in Encino late Friday night, authorities said.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the Encino Oaks condominiums at 5460 White Oak Avenue at 10:41 p.m. after receiving several calls of a shooting “in the garage area of the location.”
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered the victim – only described as a man in his 40s – with at least one gunshot wound; he was not conscious and not breathing, detectives at the scene told KTLA 5’s Carlos Herrera.
Video taken shortly after the shooting shows paramedics loading the man into an ambulance.

Preliminary information from LAPD indicated that the man was transported to a hospital in unknown condition, but law enforcement officials told Herrera that his injuries were serious.
The firearm used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, police added.
It was not immediately clear whether the suspect, an approximately 30-year-old man, was arrested or is still on the loose, but footage obtained by KTLA does show a man in police custody.

Very little is known about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Some residents of the condo complex, which houses more than 500 units, reported hearing as many as five gunshots; they told Herrera that an uptick in crime in the building has caused many to move out.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
