As one of the most fearsome and ferocious species in the animal kingdom, it’s rare that bears see willing challengers out in the open — especially animals less than half of their size.

But that’s exactly what happened in a Burbank cul-de-sac, of all places. Video captured from a Ring doorbell last week, provided to KTLA by Barbara Curren, shows a bear being chased around the front yard of a home by a pair of coyotes.

As seen in the footage, the coyotes didn’t let the size difference deter them as they barked at the bear and stood their ground as the bear, which appeared to be an adult male, didn’t want anything to do with the confrontation.

Residents told KTLA’s Ellina Abovian that bears were a rare sight in the Burbank Hills neighborhood, saying that they’re spotted perhaps about once per year. One neighbor told Abovian that mountain lions were spotted recently as well.

“It really is just the wild kingdom here in the Burbank hills,” Abovian said.
