Police are investigating after a man’s body was found along the Santa Ana River Trail.

On Wednesday, Santa Ana police responded to reports of a body spotted in a dirt-landscaped area near 2100 W. 17th Street.

The man was identified as Raul Beltran, a 51-year-old resident of Santa Ana.

Officers began investigating the case as a suspicious death after Beltran was found with visible injuries.

The injuries are believed to have been caused by “blunt force trauma consistent with a potential traffic collision,” police said.

It’s unclear when the man died. No suspect was found at the scene as the circumstances surrounding Beltran’s death remain under investigation.

His official cause of death will be determined by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Sergeant R. Shin at 714-245-8294 or the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division at 714-245-8200.
