Police are investigating after two older people were found dead in an Irvine hotel room in what appears to be a murder-suicide, officials announced Thursday.

The Irvine Police Department announced just before 3 p.m. that “officers discovered two elderly people deceased” in a room at the Marriott Irvine Spectrum, located at 7905 Irvine Center Drive.

Police added that the officers were initially responding to a request for medical aid in the hotel room and informed the public that there would be a large law enforcement presence during the investigation.

Just before 6 p.m., police released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, reading:

“Preliminarily, it appears a murder-suicide occurred between an elderly couple staying in a hotel home. Our hearts go out to all impacted by this incident.”

No additional details about the incident have been released.
