A stabbing that was initially reported as having occurred on public transit in Los Angeles actually occurred on Skid Row, with the victim using public transit to escape and alerting officers to the attack once they reached an Exposition Park Metro station.

The incident was first reported as a stabbing on the platform at the station at Exposition Boulevard and Vermont Avenue just after 12:15 p.m.

Responding police officers at that station requested an ambulance for the victim, who was suffering from multiple stab wounds, but that person refused treatment and walked away. Officers ultimately canceled the ambulance request, according to Officer Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The investigation later revealed that the victim was actually stabbed at the Midnight Mission on Skid Row, then boarded a bus before spotting officers at the Exposition Park Metro station, according to another LAPD official.

As the incident was first detailed, it appeared to be the latest in a string of dangerous incidents on public transit.

For months, Los Angeles Metro vehicles and stations have been the sites of numerous acts of violence against passengers and bus operators, some of them fatal.

Notable incidents include the fatal stabbing of a bus passenger in June, the wounding of a security guard in Hollywood and bus passenger in Lynwood in May, and fatal shooting of a bus passenger in Commerce, which also occurred in May.

The bulk of the violence has been perpetrated by those without valid fare.
