A body found buried in a “clandestine grave” in the backyard of a home in Fontana was positively identified over the weekend as a 27-year-old woman who had been reported missing.
The San Bernardino County coroner confirmed on its website that the remains were those of Alejandra Carrion Gutierrez.
A cause of death was not made available.
The woman’s body was discovered around 1:10 p.m. on Friday buried in the 8200 block of Reseda Avenue, in the yard of home belonging to 40-year-old Cesar Rosales, according to the Fontana Police Department.
Gutierrez had been reported missing on Jan. 2, but she had not been heard from since Dec. 31, police said in a statement.
Her unoccupied vehicle was found in Fontana, near the Rialto border, on Jan. 10, KTLA sister station KSWB reported.
In an interview with the television station, Juan Rodriguez, Gutierrez’s estranged husband, identified Rosales as the victim’s boyfriend.
Gutierrez and Rodriguez split up two years ago, KSWB reported, but the wife and husband continued to share an apartment in San Ysidro.
Rodriguez told KSWB his wife had left the apartment on Dec. 30 to see Rosales. Rodriguez said he had expected her to return the following day.
Her family filed a missing person’s report two days later.
Family members went to check if Gutierrez was at the Fontana home, but the alleged killer told them she was not there, the victim’s husband said.
Gutierrez was the mother of two children, one of whom had a birthday last week, according to Rodriguez.
Rosales has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder at the West Valley Detention Center, according to San Bernardino County inmate records. He was ineligible for bail.
