An officer with the California Highway Patrol was hospitalized in unknown condition after he was struck by a vehicle on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles early Sunday morning.
The collision was reported at about 3:30 a.m. at the 14 Freeway interchange in Sylmar. According to the CHP, the officer was assisting by trying to push a disabled vehicle out of the lanes of traffic when he was hit by a car.

According to the CHP, the area in which the collision happened was on a blind curve.
CHP did not immediately provide other details, but video footage captured by stringer service OC Hawk showed a black Tesla with a cracked windshield and another black vehicle with apparent damage to its side.
The officer who was struck was transported to a local hospital with major injuries, the CHP said. It wasn’t clear if the injuries were considered life threatening.
“It is very hard for all of us,” said Sgt. Dan Keene with the CHP. “CHP officers do put their lives on the line every day for their community and to keep everyone safe.”
Multiple people were seen being handcuffed at the scene, according to the OC Hawk footage. It was not immediately clear if they were arrested.
Southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway were closed in the area of the 14 connector.
