Los Angeles police shot and killed a burglary suspect armed with a gun Saturday afternoon in a residential neighborhood of Hollywood Hills West, authorities said.

No officers were injured in the confrontation, which took place about 3:30 p.m in the 1800 block of Courtney Terrace, LAPD officials said.
The deceased suspect, described by police as a male transient, was not immediately identified.
A resident told authorities that he arrived home to find an intruder, and the two men got into a verbal altercation before the suspect fled the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. It was unclear if any property was stolen.
At 2:15 p.m., the homeowner called police, who responded and set up a perimeter in the area, LAPD Lt. Tony Carranza said at a news conference in the neighborhood.
An LAPD helicopter unit spotted the suspect and directed officers on the ground to his location, after which police confronted the man and opened fire, Carranza said.
The suspect was armed with a gun, LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said, adding that it was not immediately known if he fired at officers.
At least one nearby intersection, at North Genesee Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, was closed after the incident.
An investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
