The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has identified the man deputies killed during a shootout that spanned multiple businesses in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday.

The man, identified by the Sheriff’s Department as 31-year-old Angeleno Davonte Sykes, was first reported to authorities as being armed at a Vons at 8778 19th St. at about 9:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they learned Sykes had walked to a nearby Walgreens pharmacy, and it was at that location that the shootout began.

Deputies say Sykes fired upon them first, then traveled to the Sprouts Farmers Market at 6753 Carnelian St., where the gunfight continued until Sykes was hit. He was declared dead at a local hospital.

Footage from the scene showed the glass front doors of Sprouts shattered by gunfire.

One deputy suffered a “superficial wound” and was treated and released from a local hospital, the SBSD added.

Investigators added that they believe Sykes may have been involved in a shooting that occurred earlier Saturday in Upland.
