The saga of “Inside the NBA” may not be done just yet.
The fan-favorite basketball analysis show was expected to be done after next season, when TNT loses its NBA rights to Amazon.
On Friday, however, TNT Sports announced it has sued the NBA after the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned channel said it matched Amazon’s offer with the intention of keeping NBA rights, something TNT called “a contractual right.”
“Given the NBA’s unjustified rejection of our matching of a third-party offer, we have taken legal action to enforce our rights,” the company said in a statement.
On Wednesday, the NBA noted that TNT had a chance to match Amazon’s offer but did not.
“Throughout these negotiations, our primary objective has been to maximize the reach and accessibility of our games for our fans,” the league’s statement said. “Our new arrangement with Amazon supports this goal by complementing the broadcast, cable and streaming packages that are already part of our new Disney and NBCUniversal arrangements.”
