Lakers guard Luka Dončić has put his team on his back through the first two games of the season—but it has come at a cost to his short-term health.
Dončić will miss about a week with two injuries, according to a Sunday afternoon report from Shams Charania of ESPN. Per Charania, the five-time All-NBA guard has suffered a sprain to a left finger and a contusion to his lower left leg.
The news comes amid an excellent start to the season for Dončić. In Los Angeles's opener against the Warriors, he racked up 43 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in defeat; in the Lakers' second game against the Timberwolves, he tallied 49 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in a blowout win.
Los Angeles acquired Dončić from the Mavericks on Feb. 2 in one of the most memorable trades in basketball history, giving up forward Anthony Davis in the process.
The Lakers are scheduled to play the Kings, Trail Blazers, Timberwolves, Grizzlies and Heat over the next week.
