One of the most entertaining sports analysis shows is likely coming to an end.
On Wednesday, the NBA announced that games will be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video, removing TNT — and its classic “Inside the NBA” — from the schedule after the 2024-25 season.
TNT had a chance to match Amazon’s offer, but did not, the league said.
“Throughout these negotiations, our primary objective has been to maximize the reach and accessibility of our games for our fans,” the league’s statement said. “Our new arrangement with Amazon supports this goal by complementing the broadcast, cable and streaming packages that are already part of our new Disney and NBCUniversal arrangements.”
Unless Amazon or another NBA partner like ESPN or NBC steps in, this will be the last season together for Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.
“We are grateful to Turner Sports for its award-winning coverage of the NBA and look forward to another season of the NBA on TNT,” the league said.
The Athletic reports, however, that TNT and its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, could take to the courts in hopes that the NBA stays with them.
“It is more possible than ever that TNT Sports could enter the year suing the NBA to remain together for another 11 years, while the league wants a divorce,” Andrew Marchand reported.
In a statement posted to social media, TNT Sports disagreed with the NBA as to whether the league could refuse TNT’s proposal or not.
“We have matched the Amazon offer, as we have the contractual right to do, and do not believe the NBA can reject,” the statement said. “In doing so, they are rejecting the many fans who continue to show their unwavering support for our best-in-class coverage … We think they have grossly misinterpreted our contractual rights with respect to the 2025-26 season and beyond, and we will take appropriate action. We look forward, however, to another great season of the NBA on TNT and Max including our iconic ‘Inside the NBA.'”
