The murder suspect that Irvine Police shot just after 3 a.m. Monday has died, the department confirmed.
The shooting came after authorities were called to a residence on Whistling Swan at about 2:15 a.m. A caregiver at the home told police that she found her patient bloodied and unresponsive.
The victim, who family told KTLA was paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair after an accident, was determined to be stabbed to death inside the residence.
Police identified him as 38-year-old John Alexander Bash III.
Outside the home, a gold Honda minivan had collided with the garage door, which granted the suspect access.
A search for the minivan’s driver ensued. An officer found its registered owner in the area of Stonecreek South and West Yale Loop at about 3:15 a.m., as he was traveling on foot and wielding a knife.
Police said the man raised the knife and approached the officer. At that point, the officer shot the man.
He later died at a local hospital. He was identified as 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shindle, who previously resided in Tampa, Florida.
Shindle was a former caregiver for Bash, according to both police and Bash’s family.
No additional details were immediately made available.
