The owner of the Los Angeles Times appeared on Tucker Carlson’s podcast in an episode released Wednesday, making clearer his plans to steer the paper in a more conservative direction.

Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong argued to the far-right Carlson that the paper he bought in 2018 is too liberal. As an example, he highlighted the resignations of editorial board members after he blocked an endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

“I said, ‘This is unacceptable.’ And as you can see, because it’s a left lean, they wrote terrible stories about President [Donald] Trump,” Soon-Shiong said, as reported by Politico. “So my statement to them was, ‘You may have an opinion, but all of us should have opinions based on facts.’”

Soon-Shiong noted to Carlson that the Times suffered as a result, but he believes he’s doing the right thing.

“We lost a lot of viewers,” Soon-Shiong said. “Thousands of people unsubscribed. But I don’t think it’s right that we should be this canceling society.”

Soon-Shiong has said he’s making the media more “fair and balanced.” That phrase was a longtime motto for right-leaning Fox News.
