Authorities confirmed Wednesday morning that a mother and daughter were killed in a shooting near an elementary school in Compton Tuesday evening.
Deputies were called to the scene on West Caldwell Street and South Central Avenue near Caldwell Street Elementary around 7:15 p.m. where they found a crashed Toyota sedan stopped on the sidewalk near a traffic pole.
The two victims, identified only as a 45-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter, were found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. DeJong said Wednesday.
Video showed the Toyota with the front windshield covered by a sheet as a crowd gathered at the scene.

The incident was described as a car-to-car shooting that occurred as the victims were stopped at a signal light on Caldwell Street.
The suspects pulled up alongside the Toyota in a dark-colored vehicle and fired several rounds before fleeing the scene, DeJong said.
One of the victims was found on the street nearby, while the other was still inside the vehicle when authorities arrived, the Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.
It was unclear how many people were inside the suspect vehicle and there remains no known motive for the shooting. DeJong said the incident did not appear to be gang-related.
Several witnesses are believed to have been in the area at the time of the shooting and authorities are asking them to come forward with information.
