The six teens involved in a fatal pickup crash in Dana Point on Tuesday are Dana Hills High School students, and the driver who died at the scene was a 16-year-old girl, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.

The pickup crashed into a tree in a single-vehicle incident just before noon near the intersection of Dana Point Harbor Drive and Island Way.

Rebecca Cespedes of Dana Point was the driver, officials said in a Wednesday news release, and the other five teens are two girls and three boys.

Cespedes was declared dead at the scene, while three teens were hospitalized in critical condition but are expected to survive. Two others — one boy and one girl — were minorly injured.

“It is currently unknown if drugs, alcohol, or speed contributed to this traffic collision,” the OCSD said.
