The city of Malibu is taking precautions to make sure they are prepared for the winter storm set to hit the L.A. area this week.
City officials announced Monday morning that not only a Flash Flood Watch was issued, but also a Phase 1 mudflow forecast warning.
“Phase 1 includes low risk of debris over Palisades Fire burn scars and flash flooding in the mountains,” the city said on social media. “Flash flood watches are under effect over the Franklin and Palisades burn scars, which can trigger life-threatening and damaging flooding and debris flows.”
The warnings started at 10 a.m. Monday and are set to expire at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
“Be prepared for potential mudslides, debris flows, rocks and water in the roads in all recent burn areas, especially canyon roads,” officials added. “It only takes half-an-inch per hour of rain to start a debris flow.”
Much of the rest of SoCal is also under a Flash Flood Watch as the winter storm system makes its way to the region.
