Heavy rain flooded a North Hollywood street Tuesday morning, causing several motorists to get stuck in the floodwaters.

Video from Citizen.com showed a line of drivers making U-turns on the 6800 block of Vineland Avenue after at least two trapped vehicles were left partially submerged in the water.

A man in a pickup truck was attempting to assist one of the stuck cars.

A portion of the 5 Freeway in nearby Sun Valley was down to just one lane as video showed water pooling along the roadway.

The flooding comes amid a day of heavy rain across Southern California. The storm is expected to bring 2 to 4 inches of rain to parts of the region and prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Los Angeles, including North Hollywood, through at least 10:45 a.m. Residents were also warned to be on the lookout for “a possible tornado,” the NWS said.

“Remember, not all storms are the same,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said. “Some have different elements embedded with them that could at least deliver a little rotation, which would then result in either a downburst or perhaps a tornado. Not saying that’s going to happen, but … the dynamics are there that that could be one of the outliers.”

Clear skies with cooler temperatures are expected on Wednesday before warmer temperatures arrive for the weekend.
