PBS SoCal announced a huge telethon featuring a variety of actors, hosts and musicians to celebrate 55 years of public television.
Josh Groban, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ken Burns, Ziggy Marley, Lily Tomlin, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Marlee Matlin, Nicholas Ralph, Rick Steves, David Foster, Katharine McPhee, Adam Arkin, Courtney Vance, Martha Plimpton and more are slated to join the three-hour telethon called “WE ❤ PUBLIC TELEVISION!“
“This Telethon is going to be a giant lovefest celebrating Public Television. We will feature great music, some classic clips from viewers’ favorite PBS series and a few surprises,” said Maura Daly Phinney, PBS SoCal’s executive producer of the telethon. “Every contribution that viewers make will go to their local public television station and help them fill the gap created by the loss of our federal funding.”
It’s all happening live on Nov. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. on PBS SoCal. Every contribution from viewers will go to helping their local public television station amid the loss of federal funding.
In May, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aiming to slash public subsidies to PBS and NPR as he alleged “bias” in the broadcasters’ reporting.
