There’s beginning of a special art festival in Laguna Beach; the once-in-a-life-time exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls; the special Getty Villa has reopened, closed by the Pacific Palisades wildfire and more on the Sunday “Gayle on the Go!” report.

Dead Sea Scrolls
Reagan Presidential Library & Museum

You are witnessing the final exchange of Dead Sea Scrolls currently on exhibit at the Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. Due to strict preservation protocols outlined by the Israeli Antiquities Authority, the scrolls can only be on exhibition for a three-month period, then returned to the Israel Museum, Jerusalem to rest for a year or more before they can be exhibited again.
Time is running out to explore this once in a lifetime experience. The reaganfoundation.org website says this only West coast display closes September.
Getty Villa Museum

The historic Getty Villa is reopened for this weekend, closed for six months because of the Palisades Fire. The museum staff needed time to remove debris, deep clean the facility and its artifacts, make it even more fire resistant and make it safe for visitors to return.
The Getty Villa hours will be limited for the time being. The getty.edu website details the current visitor guidelines. Admission is free!

“Smell the Roses!” at “L.A’s Most Treasured Rose Garden,” the Exposition Park Rose Garden, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks says the Rose Garden is closed every year from January 1st to March 15th for pruning back of the roses, so the current blooms are spectacular. At the Autry Museum of the American West for the new exhibit BLACK COWBOYS: AN AMERICAN STORY.
According to The Autry, “From the ranches of Texas to the cities of California, “Black Cowboys: An American Story” offers a clearer picture of the Black West and a more diverse portrait of the American frontier.
Historical and contemporary objects, photographs, and personal stories convey the work and spirit of Black cowboys and reveal how Black men and women turned their equestrian skills to popular performances in rodeo, Western film, and music.
Videos created for this exhibition highlight individual Black cowfolk, past and present, who have kept these traditions alive.”
