Gayle Anderson reports on the crucial operation of the temporary Project Angel Food kitchen in Lincoln Heights. This facility is being used while the current Hollywood campus is being transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, that will double the kitchen size and triple its capacity.
Despite the challenges of moving and using a temporary kitchen location, Project Angel Food has received Food is Medicine Coalition accreditation. The Food is Medicine Coalition (FIMC) is the national coalition of nonprofit organizations that provide medically tailored meals (MTMs) and groceries (MTGs), medical nutrition therapy, and nutrition counseling and education to people in communities across the country who are living with severe, complex, and chronic illnesses. FIMC agencies created the medically tailored meal intervention as a response to community needs nearly 40 years ago and maintain the nutrition standards for the intervention. We advance equitable access to these life-saving interventions through policy change, research and evaluation, and best practices. Visit fimcoalition.org for more information.
The project, known as the “Rise to the Challenge Expansion” needs volunteers as construction proceeds on what will become The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus. Volunteers can sign up by calling 323-845-1816, emailing volunteerservices@angelfood.org, or filling out the volunteer form available HERE.
