Gayle Anderson reports this is not a day off for Project Angel Food. The nonprofit organization is preparing free meals for the seriously ill at a temporary kitchen in Lincoln Heights. This facility is being used while the current Hollywood campus is being transformed into a state-of-the-art facility that will double the kitchen size and triple its capacity.

The project, known as the “Rise to the Challenge Expansion,” needs volunteers as construction proceeds on what will become the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus. Collector T-shirts, the “Project Angel Food Lincoln Heights Crew,” are being given on a first-come, first-served basis to volunteers the weeks of Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. Volunteers can sign up by calling (323) 845-1816 or emailing VolunteerServices@AngelFood.org.

Also, there is a Project Angel Food Toy Drive this year. There are 200 children living with critically ill Project Angel Food clients. Their parents or grandparents are often too sick or don’t have the means to give them gifts. So, Project Angel Food volunteers, donors and staff are collecting toys, books, games, electronics and gift cards for the older kids for delivery before Christmas. Anyone can send or drop off unwrapped gifts at the Project Angel Food office, 870 Vine St., L.A., CA 90038 before Dec. 9. For more information or to donate: AngelFood.org/ToyDrive.
