A motorcyclist is dead and his passenger seriously hurt after a crash in Huntington Beach early Wednesday morning, and police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit the motorcyclist after the crash and left without stopping.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Avenue at about 12:15 a.m., the Huntington Beach Police Department said in a news release. Police initially said the incident occurred Tuesday before correcting their news release to clarify that it was Wednesday.

The initial investigation indicates the blue 2006 Suzuki motorcycle was headed north on PCH when it struck a guardrail.

The 35-year-old motorcyclist, a man from Santa Ana, was declared dead at the scene, while the passenger, a 27-year-old woman from Anaheim, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Her current condition is unknown.

In addition to any injuries sustained in the crash, the motorcyclist was hit by another vehicle as he was in the roadway. That vehicle fled without stopping to help, and it and its driver remain outstanding.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator C. Houlston at 714-536-5670.
