A burglar accused of stealing from three homes in Ventura County will also face murder charges after his getaway attempt allegedly resulted in a fatal car crash in the Inland Empire.

Tylin Eugene Dixon, 27, allegedly broke into homes in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks on March 25, escaping with expensive items like jewelry, luxury watches and an Audi sedan and sentimental items like a box containing the ashes of a homeowner’s dog, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

That Audi was put into the state’s stolen vehicle tracking system, and it was spotted in Ontario on March 27, two days after the burglaries, investigators said.

When police tried to pull Dixon over, he allegedly took off, resulting in a high-speed pursuit in which he hit an uninvolved vehicle, killing the driver.

Media reports have identified that driver as 27-year-old Clarissa Cano of Chino.

“A search of the Audi yielded stolen property from the Camarillo burglaries,” and the vehicle was confirmed stolen from one of the targeted homes, authorities said.

Dixon faces a litany of charges:

  • Murder
  • Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated
  • Vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence
  • Grand theft auto
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Possession of a stolen vehicle
  • Auto theft
  • Felony evading causing death
  • Reckless driving while evading

There is also a parole hold on Dixon, indicating he may still be under supervised release from incarceration.

Jail records, however, indicate the parole hold was dropped. Instead, Dixon, who is being held at the West Valley Detention Center, is listed as being held in lieu of $1 million bail on the murder, vehicle theft and evading police causing death charges.

His next court date is listed as July 18 in Rancho Superior Court.

The other charges do not have a court date scheduled, though a warrant has been issued, indicating those charges will likely be handled separately in Ventura County.

Ventura County officials said Dixon will face additional charges of burglary, attempted burglary and auto theft.
