A false cabin door indicator warning forced an American Airlines flight to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday morning, a spokesperson for the airline said.

Flight 73 headed to Sydney, Australia, had taken off at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and was over the ocean when it needed to turn back.

The type of emergency was initially unclear but video showed the plane had safely returned to LAX shortly before 2 a.m.

American Airlines spokesperson Tim Wetzel later confirmed that the flight returned due to a cabin door warning indicator.

Mechanics investigated the warning after passengers were deplaned and determined it was a false warning, Wetzel said.

The flight was rescheduled to depart in the same aircraft at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Wetzel said that all passengers on Wednesday’s flight were provided accommodations with hotel and meals.

No injuries were reported.
