Two Angelenos have been arrested in connection with a January murder in West Covina, police said.
Sonny Ruiz, 23, and Drygani Gonzalez, 24, were arrested on Friday, the West Covina Police Department said on social media. Jail records, however, indicate Ruiz and Gonzalez are 22 and 23 years old, respectively.
Police say they were the killers of 24-year-old Michael Varela, a La Puente man who was shot on Jan. 17 in the 600 block of South Sunset Avenue. He succumbed to his wound at a local hospital.
Police did not say how they identified Ruiz and Gonzalez as the culprits, only saying there was “a comprehensive investigation.”
The pair is being held without bail at the Men’s Central Jail, and they’re due to appear in Pomona Superior Court on Thursday.
Police said murder charges have been filed against the pair by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
