A search is underway for a gunman who opened fire on several teens in Sun Valley Friday evening.

It happened around 5:40 p.m. at an apartment complex near the intersection of Vineland Avenue and Arminta Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police officials confirmed that ambulances were called to the scene to transport three teenage boys to the hospital. The ages of the victims were estimated to be around 16 to 18, and all those wounded were described as conscious and breathing. Police said they had all been shot once in the leg.

LAPD officials said the shooter was an “unknown male” wearing all black clothing who had stepped out of an SUV and shot at the three victims before getting back into the car.

He was last seen fleeing eastbound on Arminta Street toward Vineland. A local carnival was being held near the shooting scene, however no bystanders were injured.

Video posted to the Citizen app showed the scene blocked off by police officers and crime scene tape. An LAPD helicopter could be seen flying over the area.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear. The case will be investigated by LAPD’s Foothill Division Gang Unit.
