Fire crews battled a brush fire burning near homes in the hills above Burbank Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. near Amherst Drive and Bethany Road, according to the Burbank Fire Department.
By 4:30 p.m., the blaze, named the “Bethany Fire,” was mapped at 8-10 acres and growing. By 6 p.m., forward progress had been stopped and evacuation orders were lifted.
All closed hiking trails above Burbank, including the Wildwood Canyon and Stough Nature Center, were reopened by 10 a.m. Wednesday.
A fire hose had been placed around the fire to keep it contained and fire personnel remained on scene overnight to monitor for any flare-ups during cleanup operations.
An evacuation site was available to residents at McCambridge Recreation Center at 1515 North Glenoaks Blvd.
It’s unclear how the fire started. Crews from the Burbank fire and police departments, along with the Los Angeles Fire Department, responded to the scene.
“Thankful for the quick response from the Burbank Fire Department and all first responders,” Burbank city officials said. “Thank you for keeping our community safe!”
