Logistics and international shipping company DHL is laying off hundreds of workers as it prepares to close a package handling facility in Southern California.
The warehouse located near Ontario International Airport, which provides transportation, storage and e-commerce fulfillment for the company, will lay off 346 employees, the Orange County Register reported.
DHL announced its plans to begin layoffs between July 1 and Aug. 31 in a letter to the state’s Employment Development Department earlier this month.
“In a May 7 email to the Southern California News Group, DHL spokeswoman Marcia McLaughlin attributed the warehouse closure and job cuts to a client that will be relocating a part of their distribution operations,” the newspaper reported.
DHL spokeswoman Marcia McLaughlin said, “As a result, the warehouse facility that supports our customer’s operations in Ontario, Calif., will begin phasing down July 2025 and will close August 2025.”
There was no word on which client was changing its distribution plans.
