A DUI suspect was arrested and a passenger was injured after the driver crashed multiple times during the early morning hours Sunday in Simi Valley.
The incident was reported just after 12:30 a.m. by a caller who told police they were following a possible DUI driver, the Simi Valley Police Department posted on its Instagram page.
“As the caller provided details, the driver of the suspect vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant in the area of Los Angeles Ave. & Sycamore Dr.,” the post read.
The driver continued southbound on Sycamore Drive and crashed again, this time into a power pole, before police could catch up to the vehicle.
Officers found one person still trapped inside the vehicle, who was later extricated by Ventura County Fire Department personnel.
“Further investigation revealed the driver, a Simi Valley resident, was driving under the influence of alcohol and caused his passenger to be injured as a result of the crash,” police said.
The unidentified suspect was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with a BAC over .08% and causing injury to another.
The Police Department reminded motorists that the consequences of DUI are severe and urged people to consider using ride-share services or designating a driver.
