A DUI suspect was arrested after slamming her vehicle into a tree in Upland and attempting to flee the scene.

On Aug. 13, just after 2 a.m., Upland police said the woman was speeding down a residential street with two passengers inside her car.

Surveillance video captured the woman failing to make a turn and slamming into a large tree in front of a home. The impact left the Toyota RAV4 SUV with heavy damage and had nearly flipped the car over.

The woman ditched her car and began running away, attempting to hide at her residence located about a block away from the crash, police said.

Officers found the woman and questioned her, but she reportedly denied she was involved in the crash despite her injuries and that police had found her purse and ID card inside the wrecked vehicle.

She was arrested at the scene for felony DUI causing injury and felony hit-and-run. Police did not release her identity. Both of her passengers suffered lacerations and complaints of pain, but were not seriously injured.

The homeowner told police that, had the large tree not stopped the woman’s vehicle, she may have crashed into a bedroom that was located at the front of the home.
