Authorities are investigating after an elderly woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in San Bernardino County.

On June 26, officers responded to a crash near Vineyard Avenue and Church Street in Rancho Cucamonga around 9:13 p.m.

The driver, Omar Ahmed, 19, of Rancho Cucamonga, was heading northbound on Vineyard Avenue. When he approached the intersection, he struck the woman who was crossing the street, authorities said. 

Despite lifesaving measures, the pedestrian, Patti Burns, 80, of Rancho Cucamonga, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Although the cause of the crash remains under investigation, intoxication is not believed to be a factor.
