Fire crews worked to rescue a 30-year-old horse that got trapped under a fence Monday afternoon.
It happened at a stable located on the east end of Orange on North Dressage Street, according to the Orange City Fire Department.
Responding firefighters found the senior horse under the fence, stuck on its side and unable to get back to its feet. It was unclear how long the horse had been trapped under the fence.
After successfully removing the fence, followed by several failed attempts to help the horse back to its feet, firefighters were eventually able to get the horse upright and stabilized.
The Fire Department called a veterinarian to assess the animal’s condition and provide any necessary medical care.
In a post to social media, fire officials described the operation as a “successful rescue” and shared that both the horse and its owner were happy with the outcome.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, domestic horses typically live an average of 25 to 30 years — meaning Monday’s rescue required extra care for the elderly patient.
