A Stevenson Ranch man was in the backyard of his home in the Santa Clarita Valley when he spotted a mountain lion looking down from a tree Monday.
The man, who only wanted to be identified as Chris, told KTLA that he was outside checking on his dogs when he heard a sound coming from above.
“I thought it was a bird and I looked up into the tree and I saw a mountain lion,” he said.

After taking a second look to be sure it was a mountain lion, Chris said he took the dogs inside before going back to take some pictures.
“We’ve had other cats. We’ve had bobcats, we have tons of coyotes out here but never a mountain lion,” he said.
As he was out there, the big cat jumped out of the tree and ran up a nearby hill to leave the property.
Chris said the incident made him apprehensive about going into his backyard “but we’re in their neighborhood.”
He estimated the mountain lion weighed well over 200 pounds.
